The Heartland Dragons Midget Team #113 played four consecutive games to take home the GOLD in Ingersoll, Ontario. This house league tournament was dominated by our Dragons with 3 – 1, 10 – 1 and 5 – 1 wins to reach the finals. The final game was a fierce 5 – 0 win for our champs! The team is very appreciative of the very organized and well-run tournament!
The Bantam A Heartland Dragons were, this past weekend, a team of Destiny.
It all began with a Friday afternoon tour of the Bell Centre, the home of the glorious Montreal Canadiens, followed by a win over the Ted Reeve Thundernadoes.
And then, early Saturday, the Hometown Dollard Centennials were next up and next down. Jump ahead to Championship Sunday and it’s your Heartland Heroes against Ottawa Centre. This one was over before it began. The young, wild Dragons came out breathing fire. With a 6-2 win they were champions.
The Midget Senior Hawks started off slow but came from behind to win “Back to Back” Midget Championships at the Marshall Drewnowsky Memorial Select Tournament. Winning the tournament in 2016, the Midget Hawks had a much different road this year. Finishing 7th in the Round Robin, the Hawks had to play an additional game Saturday afternoon against the 10th placed seed Vaughan Rangers…..which they won 7-0. They then had to face a very strong Leaside team in the Quarter Finals Saturday night, beating them 3-2.
It was in the semi-finals on Sunday where the Hawks came out strong beating Kingston 6-0. Heading into the finals, they then faced Warren Park, who they defeated 4-1, claiming the championship.
Goaltender Marc Dubois played solid in the tournament with 2 shut-outs and a GAA of 1.00 (The Hawks had 22 GF and 6 GA).
Congratulations to Head Coach Steve Johnston along with his coaching staff, Gord Smith, Gary Grougrou, John Pontoni and Anna Johnston on their back to back championship!

Port Credit Storm Minor Atom A participated in the King Rebellion Fall Classic this past weekend. After going 3-1 in the round robin, Port Credit secured a first place spot in the championship game and met the Nepean Ice Raiders in the finals, a rematch from the round robin. After a tight start to the game, Port Credit opened the scoring and took a lead. The Storm never looked back as they scored three more times and played terrific defense and finished with a championship shut out! Congratulations to the Port Credit Storm Minor Atom A team for their 4-0 championship win!
Port Credit PC80 Minor Bantam A traveled to Niagara Falls NY to participate in the 46th Annual Gene Harrington Niagara Showdown this past weekend. They went undefeated, with a combined score of 21 – 2 in four games. In the finals against the Toronto East Enders they finished the tournament with 3-0 Shutout. The team had a great time over the weekend playing together, and enjoying the great weekend weather with a mini flag football tournament in the park over looking the Falls. This is their second consecutive gold medal in tournament play this season.
Going undefeated with a 3-0-2 record and winning an exciting overtime game in the semi’s (thanks to #4 Alexander “the deker” De Rango’s backhand beauty), the Erindale Spitfire Bantam ‘A’ (090) team defended their title and won their 2nd championship in a row at the 46th Annual Gene Harrington Niagara Showdown Tournament.
Congratulations boys! We are all incredibly proud of what you have accomplished and your positive attitude paved your way to success.
Thanks again to our parents (and biggest supporters) and to all the talented teams we played!
