On the weekend of April 7th to 10th 2016, the Erindale Spitfires hosted the Peewee A OHF Championships at Vic Johnston Arena in Mississauga. The five teams competing at the event were hosts from the MHL the Erindale Spitfires, from the GTHL the Leaside Flames, from the OMHA the Grimsby Kings, from the Alliance the Jr Mustangs Purple, and from the NOHA the Temiskaming Puckhounds.
The weekend began with a Gala on Thursday evening with guest speaker Cheryl Pounder, two time Olympic Gold Medalist for Canadian Women’s Hockey. As she shared her experiences you could hear a pin drop in the room as her passion, motivational advice really intrigued all the players.
The games began at 10am on Friday morning with the Opening Ceremonies Friday night at 6:15pm. In attendance to participate in the ceremonial Puck Drop was Bob Delaney MPP, Matt Mahoney Councillor Ward 8, our very own Hazel McCallion, along with Erindale Spitfires hockey player Daniel Caberlin and the Captain from the Temiskaming Puckhounds. The Mississauga Fire and Emergency Honour Guard and the choir, Dynamic Sound & Dynamic Fusion directed by Miranda McDonald Butler, were also in attendance to help make the event even more special.
The weekend was full of exciting events – the kids loved the decorated change rooms, snacks, media wall to pose for pictures but most of all it was filled with amazing hockey played by each team. Our theme was ‘Bring Your Game’ and these players sure lived up to that!!
We thank our many sponsors for their generous support, we thank the Community of Mississauga. A big thank you goes out to those on our organizing committee for all their hard work and dedication that they put forth to ensure the event would be remembered by these players for the rest of their lives.
Sincerely,
Tammy Walling
